The Erich-Brost Haus, located at TU Dortmund University, is a hub for international journalism research and training. It houses the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism (EBI). The institute, named after Erich Brost, a renowned German journalist, fosters a global perspective. The EBI isn’t confined to Dortmund. Its reach extends across continents, connecting journalism students and professionals worldwide. One example is the “Journalism in a Global Context” project, linking students and media representatives from Africa and Europe. This project tackles important topics like migration and foreign reporting. Another initiative, MEDAS 21, explores the effectiveness of global media assistance. This graduate school, based at the Erich-Brost Haus, offers scholarships for international PhD fellows. These fellows delve into critical issues like media development cooperation and the digital transformation of journalism. The Erich-Brost Haus also plays a crucial role in promoting media policy dialogue. Funded by the ZEIT-Stiftung, the institute has been organizing discussions in Poland. These discussions focus on media self-regulation and responsibility, especially vital in a politically charged media landscape. The EBI further champions press freedom through its involvement with the European Journalism Observatory (EJO). This network of media research institutes spans 14 countries. The EBI operates the German EJO site. It aims to bridge the gap between media research and practice, improving journalism quality and fostering media accountability.
