Founded in 1663, the Eremo San Giorgio stands as a testament to centuries of faith and contemplation. The Eremo San Giorgio rises on Monte San Giorgio. This promontory overlooks the beautiful Lake Garda.

Imagine the dedication of the Camaldolese monks. They built this hermitage and still inhabit it today. Their lives are devoted to prayer and contemplation within these walls. The construction spanned the 17th century. It culminated in the completion of the church in 1704.

However, the Eremo San Giorgio’s history has not always been peaceful. The Napoleonic suppression of 1810 forced the monks to abandon their sanctuary. The complex was then inhabited by farmers until 1885. In 1885 a Camaldolese community returned to live there.

From 1962 to 1972, the diocese of Verona used it as a place for spiritual exercises. But, for the most part, the Eremo San Giorgio has remained the property of the hermits.

The monastic community extends a warm welcome to all. They consider this place dear to the religious memory of the surrounding area. They invite visitors to respect its special character. It is a place of peace, silence, and recollection. The community welcomes those who intend to spend a few days in prayer.

The Eremo San Giorgio offers a small shop. Here, you can buy precious Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It is made by the Camaldolese monks. Jams and honeys of different qualities are also available. You can also find chocolate, teas, and essential oils here.

Remember to respect the silence. The spaces in which the community lives and works are not open to visitors. The Eremo San Giorgio is not a tourist destination.

As you stand here, take a moment to appreciate the serene atmosphere. Feel the weight of history and devotion that permeates the air. The Eremo San Giorgio is more than just a building. It is a living testament to the enduring power of faith and the search for inner peace.
