Ever wondered how a town could spring up almost overnight? Let me tell you about Enterprise. This vibrant spot in the Las Vegas Valley wasn’t always the bustling community it is today. Enterprise was officially founded on December 17 1996.
Enterprise’s story stretches back further than its official founding. The Paiute Indians were its first inhabitants. They roamed the Las Vegas Valley long before any towns existed. In 1905 Arden was created. It was a railroad town for miners working in the nearby gypsum mines. Clark County was formed in 1909. It split off from Lincoln County. An old water tower still stands. It was built in 1926.
References to Enterprise date back to at least 1918. County commissioners established an Enterprise school district then. One historian suggests the name was chosen to sound positive.
A tragic event occurred on April 21 1958. United Airlines Flight 736 collided with an Air Force jet. Forty-nine people died. The crash site was once empty desert. Today commercial development has encroached on the site. A small metal cross stands as a memorial to the lives lost.
The residents of Enterprise formed the town to preserve a semi-rural identity. They wanted to avoid annexation by Henderson. Clark County commissioners annexed land into neighboring Spring Valley soon after. This included Rhodes Ranch and a regional park. Residents opposed the annexation. They felt they had no say in the vote.
An agreement was approved in 1999. It allowed Henderson to annex land near Anthem. This included 1400 acres of Enterprise. Enterprise residents opposed this. They wanted to maintain their rural lifestyle. The agreement prevented Henderson from annexing a populated section of Enterprise.
Enterprise has experienced rapid growth since its founding. Its population boomed from 14676 in 2000 to 221831 in 2020.
Enterprise is bordered by several communities. These are Spring Valley Paradise Henderson Sloan and Blue Diamond. Its boundaries are mainly Sunset Road Bermuda Road St. Rose Parkway and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
Enterprise operates under the Clark County Commission. Input comes from the Enterprise Town Advisory Board. Policing is provided by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Enterprise is home to the UFC Performance Institute and UFC Apex. Allegiant Air has its training center here. Switch also has its headquarters in Enterprise.
