Amidst the bustling city of Denver, Colorado, stands the Emmaus Lutheran Church. It has a fascinating history intertwined with the growth of faith in the region. Emmaus Lutheran Church played a pivotal role in the establishment of another church, Faith Lutheran Church. The story begins with the elders of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Denver. They felt a strong desire to spread God’s word and expand their reach. This led them to explore the surrounding neighborhoods and initiate a fundraising drive within their own congregation. Their efforts were remarkable. Emmaus Lutheran Church members raised approximately $10,000, a substantial sum at the time. This money became the seed for the future Faith Lutheran Church. A dedicated member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, Mr. Henry N. Johanns, bought the land for the new church. He poured his time and energy into supporting the nascent congregation. Another member, Mr. Richard J. Fricke, generously donated his house at 4760 Elm Court. This house became the first parsonage and Sunday School building for Faith Lutheran. The first church building itself was built with the combined financial resources and physical labor of Emmaus Lutheran Church members. The construction faced many challenges due to the restrictions imposed by World War II. Despite these obstacles, the church was dedicated on August 20, 1944. The dedication service was a significant event, attended by 538 people. An offering of $1,500 was collected, allowing Faith Lutheran Church to begin its ministry debt-free. Around thirty members of Emmaus Lutheran Church transferred their membership to the newly established congregation. Emmaus Lutheran Church’s support extended beyond just financial and physical help. They also gave Faith Lutheran $1,000 and provided an additional $1,000 loan, which was later repaid. The first pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Rev. R.E. Schulz, had previously served as the Assistant Pastor at Emmaus Lutheran Church. This connection further strengthened the bond between the two congregations. The legacy of Emmaus Lutheran Church is one of generosity and dedication to expanding its faith community. Their commitment laid the foundation for Faith Lutheran Church to flourish and serve its members for generations to come.
