In 1981, a beacon of hope emerged for South Korea’s intellectually and developmentally disabled community. Father Noel O’Neill, an Irish-born Columban missionary, founded the Emmaus Welfare Centre. Emmaus Hall, part of this vital center, stands as a testament to his dedication. Emmaus Hall isn’t just a building. It’s a symbol of community care and support. ANZA Korea recognized the importance of Emmaus Hall early on. They partnered with other organizations like BASS, AWC, and the Base Thrift Shop to furnish apartments for the center’s residents. ANZA Korea’s contribution alone was substantial, fully furnishing two apartments at a cost of KRW 5,870,000 each over a two-year period. This initiative showcased the importance of community involvement in supporting Emmaus Hall’s mission. The center began a pilot program. This program involved government-funded apartments. These apartments would house and care for 30 residents. Emmaus Hall embodies the spirit of compassion. It provides a nurturing environment where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can thrive. The support of organizations like ANZA Korea is crucial for Emmaus Hall’s continued success.
