“The Lord’s power was electric” a former member recalled. That’s how it felt in the early days of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. We’re standing right where its powerful story unfolded. Emmanuel Pentecostal Church wasn’t always housed in this solid stone building. It started humbly in 1929. The congregation initially met in a mission hall. Then they squeezed into two small upper rooms on Half Moon Lane. Imagine the joy when they finally moved to a space above a bustling fish shop on the High Street. The services were so popular that if you didn’t arrive early you missed out.

The church quickly outgrew its small space. A wooden church on Carr Hill Road became their next home. Tragically it burned down. They were forced back to the High Street. This setback didn’t dampen their spirits. The members persevered. They pooled their resources. They even bought stone from a mansion in Old Leam Lane for £2 and 10 shillings. This stone became the foundation of their current building. Completed in 1958 it cost a considerable £2000 to build.

The present Emmanuel Pentecostal Church stands as a testament to their unwavering faith. Pastors like Clyde Young D Davies P Hickey W Barker B Barrat G Stout R McGowan A Rutherford B Oxborough and J Yeoman each contributed to its growth and spiritual vibrancy. Currently the leadership team including Pastor H Greenow continues the legacy.

The church is an integral part of the Hulme community. It’s a place of welcome. It welcomes Christians and those exploring Christianity. It focuses on the Bible. It aims to follow Jesus’s example. The vision is impactful. It aims to help people understand the message of Jesus Christ. It’s a place to believe belong and become. This building isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s a living embodiment of faith perseverance and community. It’s a church where the power of the Lord still resonates. A church that continues to inspire and uplift. A church that deserves to be remembered.
