Emmanuel Christian Mission’s story began humbly in 1914 as a small mission on Excelsior Street. Fueled by the desire for a spiritual haven within their community, this group of believers came together, their shared faith laying the cornerstone for what would become a legacy. Imagine their fervor as they held prayer meetings, the hymns echoing in the rented house. This small mission blossomed into a church, their numbers swelling with each passing year. In 1916, under the guidance of visionaries like Professor J. W. Paisley, Emmanuel Baptist Church formally took root. Their journey wasn’t without trials. The church, forced to relocate from its home, found temporary solace in rented spaces, their spirit unbroken. Finally, in 1922, their dreams materialized with the “Little White Church on the Hill” on Smith Street.
