The building itself has an interesting history. It was erected in 1910. Ludwig Hoffmann designed it as an administrative building. It served as the municipal gas works in Berlin-Mitte. Turning rebuilt it in 1992. It became the headquarters of the embassy. Today the building is listed as part of the Friedrich Wilhelm city ensemble.
The embassy’s history dates back to 1918. The German Empire recognized the Ukrainian People’s Republic. The UPR acquired premises for an embassy in Berlin. Oleksandr Sevryuk was the first temporary representative. Later Koziy Omelyan took the position. Teodor Shteingel became the first ambassador in July 1918. The embassy was closed on February 6 1923.
