A grand atrium of glass greets you. This is the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore. It stands here on Voßstraße, a testament to the enduring friendship between Singapore and Germany.

The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore has a relatively short history here. Singapore and Germany established diplomatic relations on December 24, 1965. The embassy first opened its doors in Bonn in April 1973. It then moved to Berlin on August 10, 1999, reflecting Germany’s own move back to its historic capital. The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore finally settled into this location on Voßstraße on September 15, 2011. Before that it was located in Friedrichstraße.

The building itself is a modern marvel. Braun & Schlockermann and Partner designed it. The design features a striking five-story atrium. Natural light floods the interior. Jura limestone cladding adorns the facade. This stone comes from the Dietfurt quarries. This gives the building a distinctive and elegant look.

The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore is more than just a building. It is a hub for diplomacy. Here, Singapore’s Ambassador, Lee Chong Hock, and his team work to strengthen ties with Germany. Mr. Lee assumed his post on August 24, 2023. Before this, he served as Director-General of the Europe Directorate.

The embassy also provides consular services. They assist Singaporeans in Germany. They can be reached at +49-(30) 2263-430. The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore is open Monday to Friday. Its hours are 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. It is closed on weekends, German public holidays, and Singapore’s National Day.

The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore plays a crucial role. It fosters collaboration between Singapore and Germany. This collaboration extends to many areas. These include trade, culture, and education. Singapore’s strategic location and stability make it a vital partner for Germany in Southeast Asia. High-level visits, like that of Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2015, underscore the strong relationship.

Besides this embassy, Singapore maintains honorary consulates in other major German cities. These are Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, and Munich. These consulates provide additional support to Singaporeans. They also promote Singapore’s interests throughout Germany.

As you stand before the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore, remember its significance. It symbolizes the close and growing friendship. It is a place of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect between Singapore and Germany.
