Merwyn Norrish became the first resident ambassador in 1967. He served until 1973. Ian Stewart took over from 1973 to 1977. Graham Ansell then led the embassy from 1977 to 1981. John G. McArthur was ambassador from 1981 to 1983. Terence O’Brien held the position from 1983 to 1986. Gerry Thompson served from 1986 to 1990. David Gamble was ambassador from 1990 to 1994. Derek Leask led the embassy from 1994 to 1999. Dell Higgie served as ambassador from 1999 to 2003. Wade Armstrong was in charge from 2003 to 2007. Peter Kennedy held the role from 2007 to 2011. Paula Wilson served from August 2012 to December 2015. Gregory Andrews took over in October 2016.

Currently, Ambassador Simon Draper is the Head of Mission. He is also the Ambassador to the EU and NATO. Ambassador Jen Troup is the Ambassador to Belgium, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Moldova, and Romania. She also serves as Deputy Head of Mission to the EU and NATO.

The Embassy of New Zealand provides various services. These include document notarization. However, it does not process visas. Visa applications should be directed to Immigration New Zealand. New Zealanders traveling to countries accredited to this embassy should check travel advisories. This includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Moldova, and Romania.
