President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023. A bilateral meeting occurred with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, visited Türkiye in 1960. This was the first prime ministerial visit. Vice President Dr. Zakir Hussain visited in 1965. These exchanges have continued over the decades.

Parliamentary exchanges also play a vital role. The Grand National Assembly of Türkiye has Türkiye-India Parliamentary Friendship Groups. These groups foster collaboration. The current Chair is Mr. Mehmet Galip Ensarioglu. He is a senior Member of Parliament from the ruling AK Party.

Economic and commercial relations are also important. A Bilateral Trade Agreement was signed in 1973. The India–Türkiye Joint Commission was set up in 1983. India’s trade with Türkiye reached USD 10.43 billion in FY 2023-24.

During the February 2023 earthquakes, India launched Operation Dost. This initiative provided humanitarian assistance. Search and rescue teams were sent. A mobile field hospital was established.

Cultural relations thrive through performances and film shows. A Festival of India was held in 2019. It showcased Indian dance, music, food, and fashion. The Indian Council of Cultural Relations supports Turkish and Indian language studies.

Around 3000 Indian nationals reside in Türkiye. They work in various sectors including commerce and banking. Approximately 400 Indian students study here.
