It featured yellow and white colors. Sadly, the Canadian government decommissioned it. This was due to major structural issues.
As a temporary solution, the Embassy of Canada shares space with the British Embassy. They are located at Smolenskaya Naberezhnaya 10 in Moscow.
Back in June 2018, the Moscow mission had 30 Canadian diplomats. They were supported by 70 locally engaged personnel. They also had a fleet of eight vehicles.
From Moscow, Canada supports honorary consulates. These are in Vladivostok, Tashkent, and Yerevan. There used to be a consulate general in St. Petersburg. It closed in March 2007.
Canada and the USSR established diplomatic relations on June 12, 1942. L. Dana Wilgress became Canada’s first Envoy. That was on October 5, 1942. He later became the first ambassador on December 9, 1943.
The USSR dissolved on December 26, 1991. Canada recognized the Russian Federation. Michael Richard Bell continued as Ambassador. Jeremy K.B. Kinsman replaced him on August 27, 1992.
Sarah Taylor is the current ambassador. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed her on November 9, 2023.
