Elmendorf, a small town with a big history, rests quietly in the heart of Bexar County. It was founded by Henry Elmendorf, a former mayor of San Antonio, in 1885. He saw the potential in the area’s clay deposits, and soon brick and pottery factories sprang up. Elmendorf became a bustling center of industry, with its Southern Pacific Railroad line connecting it to the rest of Texas. The town prospered, with its residents living simple lives, working hard in the factories and enjoying the quiet pace of small-town life.

But Elmendorf wasn’t always easy. The town was hit hard by the Great Depression. Its economy suffered, and many people lost their jobs. However, the community pulled together, and Elmendorf slowly began to recover. The town eventually incorporated in 1963, becoming a true city with its own elected officials. Today, Elmendorf remains a charming town with a rich history. Visitors to Elmendorf can still see remnants of its industrial past, most notably the old brick factory. The town also boasts several historic landmarks, including the Elmendorf Cemetery, where soldiers who fought in the Texas Revolution are buried.

Explore Elmendorf today and discover the charming beauty and rich heritage of this remarkable town.
