Founded in 1912 Elm Street Baptist Church began its life in the home of Reverend Charles Johnson. This humble beginning marked the start of a rich history for the church. Initially known as Elm Baptist Church it was incorporated in 1915. The name later changed to Bethel Baptist Church. Under Pastor Murray the church purchased land at 157 Standwood Street. Its name then became The Bethel Baptist Church Ministries of Roxbury Inc. The church’s move to its present location reflects its growth and evolution over more than a century. For 112 years Bethel Baptist Church has served its community. It has seen only six pastors and one interim pastor. Reverend Franklin Murray Sr. has led the church for an impressive 36 years. He’s a remarkable figure a family man and a devoted pastor. His leadership has fostered the growth of numerous ministries. The church’s covenant speaks volumes about its commitment to Christian love service and community. The church’s enduring legacy is a testament to the faith and dedication of its members and leaders throughout the years.
