Nestled within the Van’t-Hoff-Straße in Dahlem, the Elektroniklabor, or ELAB, hums with a quiet energy. It’s not the buzz of a nightclub or the clamor of a factory, but a subtle hum of innovation. The Elektroniklabor isn’t a place of flashy displays, but a workshop where scientific dreams take physical form. The ELAB team, a dedicated group of engineers and technicians, collaborates with scientists. They transform ideas into high-quality instruments, often creating tools unavailable commercially. This building, once known as the Ernst-Ruska-Bau, houses more than just soldering irons and circuit boards. It holds the potential to unlock scientific breakthroughs. The ELAB team tackles all aspects of development and manufacturing. Their expertise ranges from designing specialized circuits to crafting custom adapter cables. They even repair commercial equipment and sell electronic components. The Elektroniklabor’s reception, reachable at 3313 or elab@fhi-berlin.mpg.de, operates on a set schedule. They’re open Monday through Thursday from 8:10 am to 6:30 pm, and Fridays from 8:10 am to 5:00 pm. The Elektroniklabor is more than just a workshop.
