Ever heard of a radio station born from a university campus? Right here stands eldoradio* a vibrant testament to student passion and journalistic ambition.
Eldoradio* isn’t just any radio station. It’s a Dortmund institution broadcasting 24/7 from its studio on Vogelpothsweg 74. Since its inception in mid-April 1999 eldoradio* has been a cornerstone of the TU Dortmund and Fachhochschule campus. Its signal reaches across the city on 93.0 MHz. This isn’t your typical radio station. It’s a student-run powerhouse.
The eldoradio* team is a colourful mix of students from various disciplines. The computer scientists might know the website. The business students might handle marketing. But they all come together to create eldoradio*. The station offers a unique training ground. Students gain hands-on experience as reporters editors news anchors or moderators.
Initially a project of the Institute for Journalism at TU Dortmund eldoradio* is now run by eldoradio* e.V. a student association. The university and Fachhochschule are partners. So are the student governments of both institutions. The station’s broadcast tower sits atop the university’s tallest building the Maths Tower. With a power of 50 watts its signal extends across Dortmund and into the surrounding area.
Eldoradio* broadcasts a wide range of music. Rock alternative hip-hop electro singer-songwriter urban beats and pop fill the daytime hours. The night programming focuses on electronica minimal house reggae and post-rock. They even collaborate with CT das radio in Bochum another campus radio station in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Beyond the music eldoradio* tackles political university and cultural issues in its magazine and themed shows. The station’s motto eldoradio* lives with you perfectly encapsulates its connection to the student body and the wider Dortmund community. It’s a place where students’ voices are heard and where future journalists hone their skills. It’s a place where the energy of a university town pulses through the airwaves. It’s eldoradio*.
