“It’s been devastating” Those are the words of Dr. Janice Holmes co-pastor of El-Shaddai Missionary Baptist Church. El-Shaddai Missionary Baptist Church is a beacon of faith. It seeks a permanent home in Detroit. The church faced significant challenges. These challenges tested its resilience.
El-Shaddai Missionary Baptist Church’s troubles began nearly ten years ago. Leaks plagued the building. Contractors were hired. Sadly they did a poor job. The leaks persisted. The summer of 2014 brought torrential rains. Metro Detroit experienced widespread flooding. This flooding further damaged the church building. Mold grew making it unusable.
Without a permanent home it is difficult for members to remain active. The congregation size has been reduced. Members sought churches of their own. They decided to go to other churches. Church leaders organize fundraisers. They hope to get more public support for their mission. They need thousands of dollars to buy a new church.
El Shaddai Baptist is a community-focused church. It is dedicated to spiritual guidance. It also provides support to its members. El Shaddai Baptist offers a welcoming environment.
