Opened in 1959 El Capitan High School stands proudly in Lakeside California. It’s the fifth high school built in the Grossmont Union High School District. El Capitan is more than just a school. It’s a place where history unfolds. The school’s motto Ahora Y Siempre means Now and Always. This reflects the school’s enduring commitment to its students.

El Capitan High School has a rich history. It boasts an agriculture program unique in the district. In 2018 a new $11 million event center opened. This impressive addition includes a large event space. There’s also a lobby concession areas band room practice room dance studio and drama classroom. The event center was completed in 2019. Its varsity football team had a record-breaking season in 2014. They won the CIF San Diego Section Division II championship. The girls’ varsity volleyball team also achieved great success. They won the San Diego Section Division III championship in 2016.

El Capitan High School has notable alumni. These include athletes like Jeff Byrd a Toronto Blue Jays pitcher. Kevin Ginkel a Major League Baseball pitcher is also an alumnus. Other notable alumni include Olympic cyclist Nic Long. And even Ashli Babbitt a protester who tragically died in the 2021 United States Capitol attack. El Capitan’s legacy extends beyond its walls. Its impact on the community is undeniable.

El Capitan High School has received rankings from various organizations. In 2017-2018 U.S. News & World Report ranked the school highly in the district. Later Niche gave El Capitan another ranking among California high schools. The school’s academic performance and athletic achievements speak for themselves.
