What comes to mind when you hear the name “Big Ike”? That’s right, we’re standing in front of Dwight D. Eisenhower Senior High School, affectionately known as “Big Ike” or simply “Ike” by locals. Established in 1972, Eisenhower High School holds a special place in Houston’s history. It was the first desegregated senior high school in the Aldine Independent School District, marking a significant step towards equality in education. Located at 7922 Antoine Drive, Eisenhower High School serves a diverse student population, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the surrounding communities. The students here are known for their spirit, proudly sporting the school colors of black and gold and rallying behind their mascot, the eagle, with the resounding chant: “SWOOP SWOOP!”. The school boasts a strong academic program. Eisenhower High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses and even the prestigious International Baccalaureate Programme. The school has a history of nurturing talent and ambition. In the past, Eisenhower students sent projects to the National History Day competition in Washington D.C.
