These villages, Ehrenstetten, Kirchhofen, Norsingen, Offnadingen, and Scherzingen, merged in the 1970s. Ehrenkirchen carries the combined legacy of these distinct communities. This unique geography has shaped the community’s identity. Ehrenkirchen is situated in the Markgräflerland. It is also considered part of the Southern Black Forest, Staufen Bay, and the Breisgau regions. The surrounding vineyards add to the charm. The wines produced here have earned international acclaim. They are a source of pride for the community. Over time, Ehrenkirchen has transformed. New residential areas have emerged. The area now serves as a desirable residential community. It’s located near the university city of Freiburg. Despite its growth, Ehrenkirchen maintains a strong sense of community. Around 7,500 residents call this place home. The municipality offers various amenities. There are shopping centers, schools, and daycare facilities with full-day care options. Healthcare services are available with doctors and pharmacies. An elderly care facility is also present. Ehrenkirchen has a dedicated commercial area, “Niedermatten.” It is conveniently located and well-connected to public transport. The city of Freiburg and the A5 motorway, connecting Basel and Karlsruhe, are easily accessible. France and Switzerland are also nearby. Ehrenkirchen has made significant investments for future development. A new elementary and secondary school was completed in 2019. It includes a cafeteria that serves over 130 meals daily. The new all-day school provides valuable support to families. Ehrenkirchen’s coat of arms symbolizes the region. On one side, it features a three-peaked mountain and a grape. This signifies the economic importance of viticulture in the area. The other side displays a blue stag, representing the historical ties to St. Blaise Abbey.
