The story of Église Sainte-Victoire begins in 1863. At that time the parish of Sainte-Victoire was founded. By 1865 the first faithful were welcomed into the church. 1867 marked the arrival of the parish’s first resident priest Abbé Joseph-Napoléon Héroux.
The current Église Sainte-Victoire was built in 1896 right next to the old one. During construction the central bell tower collapsed causing significant damage. Amidst the work an employee fell from the small left bell tower losing his life.
One priest stands out Abbé Uldoric Tessier. From 1886 to 1906 he significantly shaped the region’s development. He oversaw the new church’s construction. He also brought the Brothers of the Sacred Heart for teaching. Moreover Abbé Tessier founded the Collège commercial. Legend says people cut pieces from his cassock after his death. They used these pieces as relics.
