u00c9glise Saint-Michel graces the heart of the city. Its simple baroque style draws you in. Construction on this sacred space began in the 18th century. The year was 1757.

Antoine Spinelli was a famous architect of the era. He skillfully designed u00c9glise Saint-Michel between 1764 and 1777. Spinelli incorporated stones from the Trophu00e9e du2019Auguste. It was in ruins then. These ancient stones now form part of this house of worship.

Inside u00c9glise Saint-Michel a wealth of treasures await. Marvel at the Grinda Brothers’ organ. Crafted in 1790 this organ is among the oldest in the Alpes-Maritimes. It was lovingly restored in 1982. The organ was then classified as an historic monument in 1990.

At the back of the choir you will find a large painting. It depicts Saint Michael the patron saint. His image watches over all who enter.

Look for the serene-faced recumbent Christ. This life-size sculpture is carved from a single piece of fig tree wood. Legend says an unknown galley-slave carved it. This reflected their ardent faith.

The church’s fau00e7ade is also noteworthy. It has a curved two-story design.

Inside, the marbles and statues dazzle. Six lateral chapels show exquisite craftsmanship. Admire their ceilings and alcoves. In the choir, discover two beautiful triptychs from 1621. The master altar is inlaid with seventeen different marbles.

u00c9glise Saint-Michel is open daily. You can visit freely between 9 am and 6 pm. Mass is celebrated on Sundays at 10 a.m. Also, on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
