Built in 1962 by the Church of the Apostles it’s a testament to faith. The Hellenic Canadian Community of Montreal acquired it in 1968. They inaugurated it on May 5th 1968. The Église Koimisis Tis Theotokou also known as Panagitsa has a rich history.
Tragedy struck in 2015. A devastating fire consumed the church. The flames devoured the building. It was a heartbreaking loss for the community. Yet from the ashes hope arose. Two years later the Église Koimisis Tis Theotokou was rebuilt. Its resurrection a symbol of resilience and unwavering faith.
The church’s brick exterior is simple. Yet its interior holds a serene beauty. Simple stained-glass windows adorn its walls. They were installed between 1997 and 1998. The mitre-arched vault adds a touch of architectural elegance. The church has a single nave and a rear gallery. A separate chapel stands nearby.
Reverend Father Nicolaos Papageorgiou leads the congregation. He guides the faithful in their spiritual journeys.
