Église évangélique de Cologny

In 1907, a small gathering known as the “Chalet de la Tour” assembly began to meet. This humble beginning marked the birth of what we now know as the Église Évangélique de Cologny. The Église Évangélique de Cologny is part of the Fédération Romande d’Église Évangélique (FREE). This federation connects it to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century and the spiritual revival of the early 19th century in Geneva. This revival led to the formation of the Free Churches and Evangelical Assemblies. The “Chalet de la Tour” assembly eventually became the Église Évangélique de Cologny. The FREE itself is a result of a 2007 merger. The Assemblées Évangéliques en Suisse Romande and the Fédération des Eglises Évangéliques Libres united to form this federation. These churches trace their heritage back to the Reformation, emphasizing the authority of the Bible and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. They also embrace the 19th-century spiritual revival, which highlighted personal commitment to the Christian life. The Église Évangélique de Cologny shares this rich history. The church operates through the contributions of its members. It receives no public financial assistance. Donations to the church are tax-deductible. These funds support the church’s various activities. A pastoral council, overseen by the general assembly, manages the church’s administration. The Sunday service at the Église Évangélique de Cologny follows a flexible format. A rotating team of two or three people prepares and leads each service. The service typically begins with a welcome, followed by a time of worship through song, prayer, and readings. This leads to the sermon. The congregation then gathers for communion. The service concludes with announcements, intercessory prayer, a benediction, and a sending forth. This structure allows for a free-flowing service reflecting the spiritual sensitivities of those involved. The church is led by a pastoral council elected by the assembly.
