Could you imagine starting with just twenty-five adults? That is how the story of Église Chrétienne Évangélique des Moulins began. This French open brethren assembly has a unique history. It is located on Île Saint-Jean. This island sits across the Saint Lawrence from Montreal.
Église Chrétienne Évangélique des Moulins sprouted from La Grande Maison’s work. The church’s first meeting occurred in September 1982. Initially, gatherings took place in various locations. Finally, in early December 1986, the church moved. It moved into a newly constructed facility. This facility had two hundred seats. At that time, attendance ranged from 160 to 185 people including children.
Originally, the church was known as Assemblée chrétienne de Terrebonne. Later, the name changed to Assemblée chrétienne LAMATER. In 2008 or 2009, it received its present designation. It became Église Chrétienne Évangélique des Moulins.
Tom Paul and his wife Sylvia were key figures. They came to Quebec in 1977. Tom and Sylvia dedicated themselves. They mastered the language and immersed themselves in French ministry. They served tirelessly until 1992. Then they moved to Westview Bible Church in Pierrefonds. Pierrefonds is on the island of Montréal. Sylvia passed away in June 1999. Eventually, Tom returned to the United States.
Gerry Kraemer and his wife Katherine stepped up. They led throughout the nineties. They continued well into the new century. In 2011, they embarked on an itinerant ministry. This ministry focused on marriage counseling for Christian couples. François Boudreau and his family then arrived. They served the assembly as full-time workers. They stayed until their departure in 2018. Luc Tousignant then took over leadership.
Église Chrétienne Évangélique des Moulins has a few other names. These include l’Assemblee Chretienne Lamater and Lamater Christian Assembly. From 2009 onward, it was also known as Église Chretienne Evangelique des Moulins aka Evangelical Christian Church of Les Moulins.
Before settling at its current location, the church met in fifteen locations. These included several schools. Since 1986, the church has been located at 60 JS Archambault Blvd.
Many individuals have served Église Chrétienne Évangélique des Moulins. Yves Godin served from 1987 onward. Thomas H. Paul served from 1982 to 1993. M. Bertrand Martel served from 1993 to 2000. Gerald Kraemer served from 1993 to 2010. Francois Boudreau served from 2010 to 2020.

If travelling north on Autoroute 25, take exit 21. Turn right onto Boul. J-S Archambault. The church is at number 60. When travelling south on Autoroute 25, take exit 21. Turn left onto Rue Florimond-Gauthier. Follow it to the end where it becomes Boul. J-S Archambault. Continue to number 60. From Montreal or Laval, bus 19 stops near the church. From Mascouche or Terrebonne, go to Terminus Terrebonne. Bus 19 stops in front of the viaduct. Cross over Autoroute 25 to Boul. J-S-Archambault.
