Founded in 1969 the Église Baptiste Évangélique d’Ahuntsic celebrated its 40th anniversary in December 2009. It’s a significant landmark in Montreal’s history. This church was one of the first in the greater Montreal area established by the Reverend Bill Phillips. More than a century later the church continues its mission.
The Église Baptiste Évangélique d’Ahuntsic holds a special place in Quebec’s religious landscape. It’s a member of the AEBEQ the Association of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Quebec. It also belongs to the Fellowship a national association of over 500 churches across Canada. The church’s multi-ethnic and diverse congregation reflects the rich tapestry of Montreal. This makes it a truly welcoming and enriching environment for everyone.
The church’s motto “A church that loves” speaks volumes. It embodies their desire to grow experience and share love for Jesus and their neighbours. It’s a testament to their commitment to living God’s word daily. The church’s growth has been remarkable. Over a hundred people gather every Sunday to celebrate. Their current building no longer meets their needs. They are actively seeking expansion.
Interestingly the AEBEQ and SEMBEQ the theological seminary started in the basement of the church’s first building. The Église Baptiste Évangélique d’Ahuntsic’s history is marked by not just growth but also giving back. It has birthed three daughter churches in Montreal-Nord Repentigny and Pierrefonds. These churches continue its legacy of spreading the good news.
In December 2009 over 150 people gathered to celebrate the 40th anniversary. This highlights the enduring strength of the Église Baptiste Évangélique d’Ahuntsic.
