The Église Anglicane Rwanda stands tall and proud, a beacon of faith in the heart of Kigali. Its history is interwoven with that of Rwanda itself, a testament to the resilience and spirit of the people.

The Église Anglicane Rwanda was founded in 1965, shortly after Rwanda gained independence from Belgium. It was initially part of the Province of Rwanda, Burundi, and Boga Zaire. The church has played a vital role in the community, providing spiritual guidance and support, particularly after the devastating genocide of 1994. In the aftermath of the genocide, the Anglican Church of Rwanda embarked on a program of spiritual healing, offering solace and support to countless Rwandans who had been traumatized by the horrors they had witnessed.

The Église Anglicane Rwanda has grown considerably since its founding. It now operates under the Province of the Anglican Church of Rwanda and consists of 13 dioceses covering the entire country. Each diocese is led by a bishop. The church serves a large community of believers, who gather here to find solace, strength, and hope.

The church is an important part of the fabric of Rwandan life, offering a sense of belonging and community to its members. If you look closely at the church’s exterior, you will see its distinctive stained-glass windows. They are crafted from colorful glass salvaged from the ruins of Kigali after the genocide. These windows are a powerful symbol of hope and resilience, a reminder of the spirit that has allowed Rwanda to heal and rebuild.
