Construction of the Edificio Restaura spanned from 1947 to 1952. Architect César de la Torre Trassierra and Fernández-Duro designed it. Interestingly Luis Gutiérrez Soto was initially considered for the project. His plans were eventually set aside.
The Edificio Restaura’s design bears a resemblance to another iconic structure. It mirrors the Edificio de la Sociedad Anónima Española de la Dinamita. Manuel Ignacio Galíndez Zabala created that building. It stands on Paseo de la Castellana 22. Before the Edificio Restaura graced this corner stood a palace. It was the palace of Don Ramón Calderón. It was also known as the palace of Don José Campo. This earlier palace constructed around 1860 met its end to make way for the new.
The name Edificio Restaura came about after a significant renovation. Between 2003 and 2008 the building underwent a complete transformation. The company Restaura oversaw this project. An investment of 18 million euros breathed new life into the structure. The building’s purpose shifted from commercial to residential use.
The Edificio Restaura’s interior was completely redesigned. A central courtyard with a green space was created. Beneath this courtyard lies a hidden marvel. A six-story underground garage features a robotic parking system. It accommodates 101 vehicles. The Edificio Restaura now houses 81 apartments. These range from one to four bedrooms.
Gabriel Allende directed the renovation. In 2009 the project received recognition. It earned an award at the Salón Inmobiliario de Madrid. It was recognized for the best real estate rehabilitation or remodeling project.
