“Imagine Hotel Michelangelo, a Milanese symbol for over fifty years.” Now, envision it reborn as MI.C. This is not just a building. It’s urban regeneration in action.
MI.C is a skyscraper rising here since 2023. The projected completion date is 2026. It replaces the former Hotel Michelangelo. The hotel closed in 2020. It was demolished in 2023 to make way for this new construction.
Park Associati designed MI.C. It will stand 95 meters tall. That is about 22 stories high. The design features two adjacent towers. They rise from a continuous lower building. This base connects the complex to the surrounding block.
Notice the green spaces. They extend from the entrance. They continue through communal areas at the top. This “green backbone” brings nature into the building. It creates both indoor and outdoor natural spaces.
The facade is dynamic. It changes with the building’s daily life. Glass plays a crucial role in the design. Cusp-shaped elements vary in transparency. Their inclination changes vertically. This adds visual interest. The facade opens where the green spine extends. This reveals the natural elements within. The design adapts to the experiences hosted inside.
MI.C aims to improve pedestrian traffic. The plan includes a garden. It will sit at the foot of the complex. This adds green space to Piazza Luigi di Savoia. The design boosts existing services. There will be bicycle parking. Co-working areas will connect directly to the building.
The project incorporates circular system principles. It reuses materials from the old hotel. Concrete from Hotel Michelangelo will be reused. Some will be in the new building. Some will be in the public space design. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions. It embraces “Urban Mining”. This is obtaining raw materials from the built environment.
During the pandemic, Hotel Michelangelo became a Covid-19 convalescence center. The design preserves this history. MI.C integrates the building with its surroundings. It offers a new model for urban development.
MI.C represents a turning point. It will revitalize Stazione Centrale. It blends environmental responsibility with modern design. The building aims to create a new identity for the area. It will rationalize travel flows. The project seeks to foster social connections. It provides new spaces for interaction.
