Ninety percent. That’s the astonishing portion of Eaton Academy students who commuted from Detroit in 2011. Eaton Academy, a PreK-8 charter school, resides in Eastpointe, Michigan. It occupies the former St. Veronica School building. Eaton Academy’s story is one of both struggle and perseverance. In 2011, a staggering 86% of its students lived at or below the poverty line. This made Eaton Academy a Title I school. Despite these challenges, Eaton Academy remains dedicated to providing quality education. The school is much smaller than most in the area. This allows for a more focused learning environment. Eaton Academy’s charter is authorized by Central Michigan University. They are also accredited by AdvancED, demonstrating their commitment to educational standards. The school year at Eaton Academy culminates on June 14th. This marks the end of Quarter 4 and the last day of school. A short break follows before the new academic year begins.
