Built in 1913 East High originally stood as a state-of-the-art structure. It cost a whopping $700000 to construct. The school’s story is one of triumphs and tragedies. A devastating fire in 1972 gutted the interior. The school was rebuilt though bigger and better. The current building completed in 1997. But East High is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a launchpad for dreams. Roseanne Barr a famous actress comedian and director studied here. So did astronaut James Irwin the eighth person to walk on the Moon. Many more notable alumni went on to achieve incredible things. East High School also boasts a rich cinematic history. Much of the Disney Channel’s High School Musical was filmed here. This brought a wave of tourists eager to experience the magic. The school even staged its own production. Demand was so high they added an extra show. East High School also took steps to help homeless students. In 2017 the school repurposed locker rooms and installed washing machines. This was possible due to the generosity of Chapman-Richards Cares. Around 100 students benefited from this initiative. Unfortunately a flood in July 2017 caused about $3 million in damages. The school persevered though overcoming challenges. East High School remains a vibrant hub of learning and community spirit. The school continues to shape young lives.
