Sheltered by Cronk ny Arrey Laa, on the Isle of Man’s western coast, lies Earyglass, also known as Eary Cushlin. It’s a place of captivating contrasts. Originally built as a refuge, Earyglass became a unique holiday destination. Colby Cubbon, an eccentric recluse, sought sanctuary here from German bombings during World War II. Ironically, one of the only two German bombs to hit the island landed near Earyglass. Now, this former farmhouse, owned by Manx National Heritage, offers a haven for families and adventurers. Earyglass sits near the Raad Ny Foillan coastal path and the South Barrule mountain bike trails. The farmhouse sleeps up to nine people. It boasts a spacious living room, a separate dining room, a large kitchen with a breakfast bar, a boot room, a downstairs shower room, and an upstairs bathroom. If stairs are a challenge, a sofa bed in the lounge can accommodate one adult or two children. While Earyglass embraces modern comforts like Wi-Fi, it also retains a charming disconnect. There’s no mobile phone signal, but a telephone allows local calls. This digital detox encourages guests to reconnect with nature and each other. Earyglass carries a distinct charm, blending historical echoes with modern comforts. It invites you to experience the tranquil ruggedness of the Isle of Man.
