Seven hectares of potential. That’s E Park in Cebu City. A place once brimming with promise now stands largely idle. This isn’t just any park. It’s a site with a history. A history of groundbreaking ceremonies. A history of unrealized dreams.

E Park started its life as a bold vision. A Cebu City Eco Park. A wildlife sanctuary. A place where nature and urban life could coexist. Former Mayor Michael Rama spearheaded its groundbreaking. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the start of what was meant to be a transformation.

But the transformation never fully materialized. The ambitious plans remained just plans. Construction never really began. The park’s potential lay dormant. Unused.

The reasons are complex. Budgetary issues played a significant role. Funding was initially allocated then mysteriously removed. Bureaucratic hurdles and the slow pace of government procurement added to the delays.

Now however a new chapter is beginning. Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has stepped in. He sees the potential of E Park. He envisions a Wildlife Conservation and Protection Center. A place where Cebu’s animals can thrive.

The plan is ambitious. It includes an administrative building. A multi-story parking structure. Even a rooftop garden. There are plans for commercial spaces. An amphitheater. A crocodile park. A man-made waterfall. A bird sanctuary. The list goes on.

This new vision requires significant investment. Around P300 million is the estimated cost. The city government is seeking partnerships with the private sector. Businesses hope to benefit from the increased tourism. They see the park’s potential to attract visitors.

It’s a bold plan for a park that has long been forgotten. A five-year plan to bring this seven-hectare space to life. To transform it into a vibrant hub. A place where wildlife conservation and urban development can coexist.

E Park’s story is far from over. It is a story of unrealized potential. It’s a story of setbacks and perseverance. It’s a story of hope. A story that’s still being written. And we’re here to witness the next chapter unfold. The future of E Park is bright. It just needs time to blossom.
