Across the Helmholtzstraße, the E. E. Meyer-Brücke connects two parts of the Evangelisches Schulzentrum Chemnitz. This modern, fully glazed bridge isn’t just a walkway. The Evangelisches Schulzentrum, originally located in Sonnenberg, expanded to Hilbersdorf due to increasing enrollment. The school needed more space for its growing student body. They decided to build a new, modern facility directly across the street from the existing Hilbersdorf building. The E. E. Meyer-Brücke was the perfect solution to link the two sites. Constructed in a record-breaking 17 months, the bridge and the accompanying three-story building, complete with a sports hall and multipurpose room, opened in 2025. The bridge and new building represent a 6.3 million euro investment by the Freie Evangelische Schulverein. This investment reflects the school’s commitment to providing a high-quality education for its 752 students. The E. E. Meyer-Brücke symbolizes the school’s motto, “Schule für Werte” or “School for Values.” It connects not just two buildings, but also the school’s past and future.
