In 1866, Durban High School embarked on its incredible journey. It began humbly, housed in just two rooms on Smith Street. Today, we stand before a testament to time and education, Durban High School. It’s not just Durban’s oldest school but a pillar of South African education. Did you know that this esteemed institution started with a mere seven pupils? The school’s journey wasn’t always easy. It outgrew its initial home quickly. After a stint in a repurposed granary, Durban High School found its forever home on the Berea in 1895. The town council, recognizing the school’s value, awarded it a sprawling ten-acre plot. This generous space allowed the school to flourish into the grand institution we see today. Durban High School has consistently produced exceptional individuals. From academics to sports, its alumni have left an indelible mark on the world. This school is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a factory of dreams, a place where boys become men, ready to face the world.
