Listen closely. Duett Du00fcsseldorf stands before you. It is poised to gift this German city with a fresh cultural heart.
Snu00f8hetta was commissioned by CENTRUM GROUP. They proposed a novel opera house and cultural center for the city. This is more than just a building. It aims to be a shared cultural epicenter for Essen’s residents.
The Duett Sculpture creates connections. It links the Hofgarten park and the Ku00f6nigsallee street. It is designed as a publicly accessible space. This space encourages people to come together. The ensemble of towers shifts its silhouette. Each new perspective reveals a constantly evolving expression. The expression is reminiscent of a dancing duet.
Imagine two iconic dancing towers. Consider a generous public roof garden. Envision a world-class opera house. This opera house will replace the existing one. The current floor plan isn’t suited for an international-level opera house.
The proposal suggests an expansion to the north. This expansion would create space for back-of-house functions. It also adds additional program space. Another expansion to the East facilitates a larger foyer. The program at ground level is limited. Functions are placed on higher floors.
The landscape design focuses on the flow of people. It leads people through an urban forest. This forest guides visitors to the opera house’s foyer.
The boundaries blur between indoors and outdoors. The foyer and the park merge. A 16-meter-tall glass fau00e7ade reveals a sculptural wood wall. Balconies stretch out. They extend from a circular core. The organically shaped wall transitions from a vertical wall to a horizontal sky. The meeting with the wooden core creates a welcoming experience. It is intimate, warm and comforting.
Generous staircases and ramps lead to a cafu00e9. The cafu00e9 sits on the fourth floor. From there, visitors can glimpse magnificent views.
The towers are designed to reduce shading. This benefits surrounding areas of the park and neighborhood. They also improve daylight conditions in the courtyard. The towers create a constantly changing expression. It’s like a dance.
