Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart opened in 1960. It’s part of a network of Sacred Heart schools worldwide. Its history is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Society of the Sacred Heart. Founded by Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne the academy carries her name. It’s dedicated to educating young women from Pre-K3 through 12th grade.
The original campus was built around a majestic oak tree. It became a symbol of the school. The name Duchesne is French for “of the oak”. The oak was central to a graduation tradition. Seniors walked under it as they received their diplomas. Sadly the original oak fell during a storm in 2014. A new one was planted. It ensures that the tradition continues. A beautiful two-story white house stands on campus. It was there when the school was built. It houses the RSCJ who live and work here. Some classes were originally held in this historic building.
Today Duchesne Academy is a thriving community. The school boasts modern facilities. State-of-the-art classrooms provide excellent learning environments.
