Established in 1987, the Dubai Police Academy has become a cornerstone of security education. It started its journey modestly. Courses began at the Police Training School of Emergency Department in September 1987. By October 1988, the basic infrastructure was ready. The inauguration took place on April 1, 1989. From its early days, the Dubai Police Academy welcomed students from various countries. These included the GCC countries, Yemen Arab Republic, and the Palestinian Authority. The first graduation ceremony was a landmark event. It took place on October 30, 1991. Students earned bachelor’s degrees in laws and police sciences. Impressively, the degree was considered equal to those from Egyptian universities.
The Dubai Police Academy earned recognition from the Ministry of Higher Education in 1994. It continued to expand its academic offerings. Postgraduate programs in law and police science were introduced in 1998/99. Master’s degrees in public law and private law followed.
In 2001, the institute’s name evolved to Dubai Police Academy. A master’s degree in criminal science was added in 2002. By 2010, the academy offered doctoral degrees. These covered public, private, and criminal law. The academy gained accreditation for its master’s program in human rights in 2012/13. It is offered in both English and Arabic.
Since its inception, the Dubai Police Academy has seen 7,783 students graduate. A diverse student body is a point of pride. Around 43% come from ethnic minority groups. These students hail from Pakistan, Indonesia, and many other countries.
