Dubai Healthcare City has two phases. Phase 1 focuses on healthcare and medical education, spanning over 4 million square feet. Phase 2, currently under development, will be dedicated to wellness and will be even larger, covering a vast 19 million square feet. Dubai Healthcare City is overseen by the Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA). The DHCA ensures that international best practices are upheld. It also works to license healthcare providers and professionals. This meticulous oversight maintains the high standards of care that Dubai Healthcare City is known for. In 2014, Dubai Healthcare City welcomed 1.2 million visitors. This represented a 20% increase from the previous year. A significant portion of these visitors, around 15%, were medical tourists. Popular procedures sought by these visitors included infertility treatments, cosmetic procedures, and dental work. These medical tourists come from diverse regions, including the Gulf Cooperation Council area, the wider Arab world, Europe, and Asia. This truly makes Dubai Healthcare City a global healthcare hub. Dubai Healthcare City also plays a role in medical education and research. The Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) is located within the city. This university offers a range of programs, from postgraduate dentistry specialties to a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.
