The story of the Dubai Club for People of Determination began in 1988. Five determined individuals wanted to surmount their difficulties. They envisioned a space where sports could empower people with disabilities. So they established the Sports Committee for the Disabled. This committee quickly demonstrated its value through outstanding results.
In 1993, the committee officially became the Dubai Club for People of Determination. Despite limited financial and technical resources, the club’s members achieved international recognition. They brought pride to the nation. Generous leaders and increasing social awareness fueled the club’s progress. This support extended to women, leading to the establishment of a Ladies Club in July 2002.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum recognized the need for a dedicated space for women. The Ladies Club offered sports activities plus sewing, embroidery, and fashion design. They also provided training in traditional crafts.
The Dubai Club for People of Determination continues to empower athletes. RTA partnered with the club to support Siham Al Rashidi. She is a celebrated para-athlete. She has earned approximately 600 medals in various competitions. These include athletics and badminton at national, regional, Asian, and global levels.
RTA’s support includes moral encouragement, financial assistance, and coordination with the club. This partnership fosters sports empowerment and provides opportunities for athletes to excel.
The Dubai Club for People of Determination also hosts summer activities. The eighth edition featured 60 events. These events included recreational trips, workshops, training programs, and courses. The goal is to enhance the capabilities and talents of People of Determination. It provides scientific, social, cultural, and sports skills.
Majid Al-Usaimi emphasized the importance of these activities. He highlighted their role in developing participants’ skills and fostering creativity. The Dubai Club for People of Determination stands as a beacon of hope. It demonstrates the power of sports and community support. It inspires individuals to achieve their dreams.
