Standing before you is not the first church to grace this site. Dreifaltigkeitskirche actually represents centuries of faith, growth, and resilience in the Sandhofen community. The story begins long ago, as far back as 764, with a small chapel linked to the nearby village of Scharhof. In the 15th century, a more permanent structure arose – a church built in 1515. Can you imagine the tumult this church witnessed during the Reformation, as religious tides shifted the very fabric of society? Dreifaltigkeitskirche, though not yet known by that name, endured those turbulent times, eventually becoming a Reformed church in 1706. The year 1724 brought a dramatic change: a new Baroque-style church, incorporating the original tower. By the mid-19th century, the congregation had outgrown the church, leading to the construction of our Dreifaltigkeitskirche, beginning in 1852. The dedication to rebuilding speaks volumes about the spirit of this place. Even a devastating explosion in 1921, which shattered the church’s windows, couldn’t shake the community’s faith.
