Consider these three figures. What do you see when facing the Drei Vogelsäulen für Borgfelde?

This sculpture stands in front of you. It is not just art. It is a statement crafted by Klaus Becker between 1987 and 1989.

The Drei Vogelsäulen für Borgfelde is located in Hamburg-Borgfelde. You can find it in the Grünzug Oben Borgfelde. The sculpture sits above the Borgfelder Straße. It is between the Berliner Tor and Burgstraße U-Bahn stations.

These bird figures are quite impressive. Each stands between 240 and 260 cm tall. They are made from Anröchter stone. This choice of material gives them a solid and timeless feel.

Becker’s work was funded through “Kunst im öffentlichen Raum”. The Hamburger Kulturbehörde and Parkkunst also helped. The Bezirk Hamburg-Mitte supported it as well.

Klaus Becker was born in Hamburg in 1956. He explored chemistry briefly at Kiel University. From 1978 to 1984, he studied free art at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg. He also studied architecture at the Fachhochschule in Hamburg from 1986 to 1987.

Becker focuses on symmetry in sculptures. He often uses symmetrical forms and figures. Since 1982, his art has appeared in public spaces in Hamburg. He has also participated in exhibitions.

These three bird columns create a spatial installation. They are placed on a grassy area. The birds’ beaks point to an imaginary center. This arrangement follows mathematical principles.

Each sculpture has its own effect. The stylized figures perch on narrow steles. They evoke various associations.

The Drei Vogelsäulen für Borgfelde invites you to reflect. It merges art, space, and mathematical precision. What do these silent stone birds tell you? They stand as a testament to art’s ability to transform public spaces. They stimulate thought and emotion in those who encounter them.
