Three bronze women. That’s what greets you here. They sit in a circle. A modern sculpture evoking the Three Graces.

Carin Kreuzberg’s creation. Life-sized figures. Each with her own plinth. The plinths rest on a shared concrete slab set into the lawn.

Kreuzberg designed them in 1979. They found their home in 1993. This small green space. Between Elisabethweg and the Panke River. Near Ossietzkystrasse.

This park emerged around 1951. After World War II. The area improved. When Schloss Schönhausen became the East German President’s office. The sculptures probably enhanced the Panke’s landscaping. A beautification project.

Notice the flowing lines. The sculptures are slim and tall. Their upper bodies are bare. A “tight almost austere form” as one critic described. Their expression is intensely inward. Frozen. Static. A subtle display of emotion.

The inscription on one plinth is subtle. ‘C. KREUZBERG’ it reads. A quiet signature for a powerful work. A quiet testament to a powerful woman’s vision. The Drei sitzende Frauen. A symbol of grace. A symbol of strength. A symbol in Berlin.
