Why was Draper Hall named Draper? Right here at Point Loma Nazarene University, Draper Hall stands as more than just an office building. It holds a piece of PLNU’s presidential history. Draper Hall houses Admissions, Student Financial Services, Student Accounts, and Business offices. It’s a hub of activity, a place where students begin their academic journeys and manage their financial lives. But the name, Draper Hall, carries a deeper significance. It honors the legacy of a former PLNU president, Bill Draper, and his wife, Frances (Draper) Warren. Bill Draper served as PLNU president from 1978 to 1983. Before his presidency, he was a pastor at the College Church at Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. He also served as an administrator for Church Relations at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Kansas. During his time at PLNU, Draper played a key role in partnering with Point Loma Community Church of the Nazarene and the First Church of the Nazarene. This partnership led to the construction of Brown Chapel, a prominent landmark on campus. So, the next time you pass Draper Hall, remember the man behind the name.
