Beneath our feet lies more than just concrete and steel. This is the Dragon’s Tail. It marks the end or the beginning depending on your direction.

The Dragon Bridge is more than a crossing. It is a symbol of Da Nang’s ambition. This incredible structure officially opened on March 29, 2013. It commemorated the 38th anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation. Imagine the celebrations.

Da Nang sought a design that would not only ease traffic but also capture the world’s attention. A global competition was launched. Designs came in from Vietnam, Japan, Germany and the United States. The winning design featured a magnificent dragon.

The Dragon Bridge stretches 666 meters long. It is 37.5 meters wide. It provides six lanes for traffic. The dragon itself weighs a staggering 9,000 tons. It is the heaviest steel dragon-like bridge in the world. Its scales alone weigh 118 tons.

The dragon’s design draws inspiration from the Ly dynasty. This era represents the power of Vietnamese kings. The dragon’s head faces the sea. This symbolizes Da Nang’s reaching out to the world.

But the Dragon Bridge is more than just a static monument. It comes alive on weekend nights. Every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM the Dragon Bridge breathes fire and water. This spectacle attracts locals and tourists alike. The fire show features impressive bursts of flame. They shoot 8 to 10 meters into the air. The water show follows creating a stunning visual display.

The Dragon Bridge cost nearly 1.5 trillion Vietnamese dong. That is approximately 88 million US dollars. The bridge’s construction involved international collaboration. US-based Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers designed it. Vietnamese company No. 508 and Bridge Company No. 75 constructed it.

Beyond its fire and water shows the Dragon Bridge offers stunning views. From here you can see a sparkling Han River. Admire the colorful light reflections. Spot the neon-lit cruises. Observe old cultural landmarks and modern high-rise hotels. You will see five other bridges.

The Dragon Bridge is more than just a means of transportation. It is a destination. It embodies Da Nang’s spirit of innovation and reaching for the future. It represents a blend of ancient symbolism and modern engineering. The Dragon’s Tail is a testament to human creativity.
