Dottenfelder Hof

In 1707, a proud coat of arms adorned the Dottenfelder Hof. It belonged to Andreas Brand, the Abbot of Ilbenstadt Monastery. This marked a significant period in the Dottenfelder Hof’s long history. The Dottenfelder Hof, affectionately nicknamed “Dotti”, isn’t just any farm. It’s a bustling hub of activity. It’s a place where history intertwines with modern, sustainable living. The Dottenfelder Hof is located on the edge of Bad Vilbel, a town just north of Frankfurt. Emperor Otto II granted the estate, then known as Dutdunueld, to the Bishopric of Worms in 976. Later, Ilbenstadt Monastery acquired the farm. It remained in their possession until 1803. Locals still sometimes refer to it as the “Paffehof,” meaning “priest’s farm,” a nod to its monastic past. The Dottenfelder Hof’s journey took a turn in 1951. The Titular Landgraves of Hesse, then the owners, ceded the property to the Nassauische Siedlungsgesellschaft due to land reforms. Even before this transition, between 1946 and 1958, the farm embraced biodynamic practices. It’s a tradition that continues to this day. This farm isn’t just about growing crops. It’s a vibrant community. Over 100 people live and work on the Dottenfelder Hof. They are part of a unique agricultural community committed to biodynamic farming since 1968. The Dottenfelder Hof welcomes visitors with open arms. Families can enjoy a day out. Children can explore the small playground, marvel at the farm animals, and pick their own flowers.
