The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion opened in 1964. It was originally called the Memorial Pavilion. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors renamed it. They honored Dorothy Buffum Chandler. Even the farthest seat is only 130 feet away. The stage itself is one of the largest in the nation. It measures 60 feet wide 30 feet high and up to 240 feet deep. The orchestra pit is also remarkable. It uses a mechanically operated floor. This allows for flexibility. It can accommodate orchestras of all sizes. It can also be raised to enlarge the stage.
