Gazing at the Dorfkirche Tauchritz, can you sense the echoes of a fiery past? The year is 1686. A raging inferno, ignited by a lightning strike, consumes not only the church but also the Pfarrhaus, the Gutsherrschaft, and numerous homes. From the ashes rises the Dorfkirche Tauchritz you see today. This simple, towerless sanctuary, facing east, features a polygonal apse and a distinct sacristy. Step inside the Dorfkirche Tauchritz. The lofty Kanzelaltar, stretching towards the heavens, stands as a testament to time, largely unchanged over the centuries. A radiant cross, held aloft by angelic figures, crowns the altar. A striking black crucifix, a later addition from 1862, resides beside the pulpit. Opposite, an angel gestures towards the gospel. The octagonal baptismal font dates back to 1892, while the galleries were added in the early 19th century. In 1885, a new organ graced the Dorfkirche Tauchritz, only to undergo significant repairs just three years later by Schlag und Söhne, organ builders from Schweidnitz. Near the altar, a life-sized effigy of a knight adorns an impressive epitaph. This is Johann Christoph von Warnsdorf (1642-1685), a former lord of the manor and patron of the church. The recently restored Patronatsloge within Dorfkirche Tauchritz boasts a rare original stove. A grand coat of arms commemorates Hans Christoph Gottlob von Warnsdorf (1677-1746), the last male patron of Tauchritz. The loge also houses a memorial dedicated to the miners who perished in the Oberlausitz mining regions. The Dorfkirche Tauchritz resounds with the harmonious tones of two bronze bells, cast in 1689 by Abraham Sievert of Görlitz. Outside, epitaphs adorn the church walls, remembering both members of patron families and former pastors. The war graves, a solemn reminder of past conflicts, were redesigned in 2021. The Dorfkirche Tauchritz stands as a beacon of resilience, reborn from the ashes, a testament to the enduring spirit of Tauchritz.
