A simple late Gothic fieldstone hall. That’s the Dorfkirche Löhme. Its three-sided choir and sturdy tower were likely built in the late 15th century. But this unassuming church holds secrets. The Dorfkirche Löhme’s pointed arch portal on the north side offers entry. Remnants of historic plaster and paint remain visible especially on the choir. Step inside. Notice the primarily Renaissance-era furnishings dating back to around 1620. This period marks a significant transformation for the church. The interior reflects this change. A transformation in style and design that changed its identity.
The Dorfkirche Löhme’s interior features a plastered ceiling. A partially blocked pointed arch opening leads to the tower. The west gallery above the winter church is completely sealed. The north wall boasts a former glazed patron’s lodge. It features Tuscan column articulation from 1620. Eight round arched panels display painted coats of arms. These were renewed in the 19th century. They represent the former patrons the von Arnim and von Katte families. The glass panels were reused for the winter church.
The Dorfkirche Löhme’s wooden pulpit is a donation from the patron families. It dates to 1620. Notice the polygonal basket corner columns. Mussel niches feature figures of Christ and the Evangelists. One figure is sadly missing. The altar piece a work by Clara Oenicke from 1848 depicts Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. A tombstone commemorates Frantz von Arnim (1513-1587).
The Dorfkirche Löhme’s wooden baptismal angel from 1700 survives only as a torso. It was restored in 2010. The angel held a baptismal bowl in its right hand. In its left hand was likely a scroll or a palm branch. The church tower houses a bell cast in 1300. It is a relic of an earlier building. In 2019 significant restoration work was carried out on the church tower church roof facade and interior.
