Once an inaccessible wasteland now blooms. Dora-Duncker-Park is a green space for all. It sits in Berlin’s Tempelhof-Schöneberg district. It is located between Yorckstrasse and Monumentenbrücke. This park is more than just a pretty space. It is part of a climate-friendly network.

The Nord-Süd-Grünzug connects various green spaces. Pedestrians, cyclists, and skaters can enjoy this continuous path. It stretches from Natur-Park Südgelände to Tiergarten in Mitte. Dora-Duncker-Park is an asset. It serves the surrounding neighborhood. It supports Berliners’ climate-friendly mobility.

First design ideas emerged in 2006. An international landscape planning competition spurred the park’s creation. Atelier Loidl, a Berlin-based firm won. Starting in 2009, their design was implemented. They focused on careful site development.

The paths follow old railroad tracks. Preserved relics remind us of the site’s past. This area was once a bustling railroad hub. Dora-Duncker-Park opened on March 21, 2014. Later, the connection to Park am Gleisdreieck was improved. This happened with the renovation of the five Yorckbrücken.

Before becoming Dora-Duncker-Park, the area was called Flaschenhalspark. This name came from the area’s shape. Today, the Dora-Duncker-Park honors Dora Duncker. She was a writer and journalist. The park was officially renamed in April 2021.

The park’s design preserves the site’s original character. Pioneer forests thrive. Ruderal meadows and dry grasslands dot the landscape. Three paths run north to south from Yorckstrasse. They converge at a small, designed space. This space features the Bahnrelikt Stellwerk.

A concrete path marks the Berlin-Leipzig cycling route. It continues to Monumentenbrücke. One of the three paths reuses a track. It is now filled with foot-friendly bark mulch. Benches and high swings add to the relaxed atmosphere.

The Dora-Duncker-Park plays a vital role in Berlin’s green space concept. It links north to south. The park is part of a 40-kilometer path. This path is known as Wanderweg 5. It extends from Panke to Regionalpark Teltow Park.

To the north, the park connects to Potsdamer Platz’s parklands. It also reaches the Spreebogenpark. To the south, the Schöneberger Schleife links to Schöneberg-Südkreuz. This area aims to integrate the Fernbahnhof Südkreuz into the urban environment. The Dora-Duncker-Park offers a blend of history and nature. It invites everyone to explore and enjoy.
